Dr. Zohreh (Zoe) Ghahremani is the award-winning author of SKY OF RED POPPIES. Her novels explore the experiences of Iranian women, illuminating a dimension to the lives of Middle Eastern women not often seen in literature today. Her sophomore novel, THE MOON DAUGHTER, examining the effect of immigration on a mother-daughter relationship, also went on to win an award.
Zoe was recently profiled in renowned artist and author Lisa Congdon’s A GLORIOUS FREEDOM: Older Women Leading Extraordinary Lives.
Zoe’s decision to abandon a successful career and professorship in dentistry was rewarded: her debut novel, SKY OF RED POPPIES, exploded onto the scene as KPBS’s selection for the city-wide read for One Book, One San Diego. Readers who have seen her speak delight in Zoe’s lively and often humorous presentations exploring the immigrant experience, family relationships, bicultural identity, Persian culture, and other themes of her work. A popular public speaker, she has been featured on WBEZ in Chicago, Voice of America, KPBS, and many more. She readily connects with audiences of all sizes, whether filling an auditorium or cozying up in a private residence with a small book club of new readers.
Zoe lives and writes in San Diego, with frequent visits to Los Angeles and Seattle to visit her children and readers in those locations!
