Fierce women. Impossible odds. Kim writes women’s historical fiction. She writes about the thieves and servants, murderesses and soiled doves, grifters and dancehall girls. The fierce women. The darker stories with tangled lies and hidden motives. She is the author of the historical mysteries After Alice Fell and The Companion, the historical women’s fiction Bowery Girl and Cissy Funk, winner of the Willa Award for Best YA Literature.  She is a member of Sisters in Crime, International Thriller Writers, Mystery Writers of America, and the Historical Novel Society, and is the founder of and novel coach for Outside of writing, she is a history nerd and gothic novel lover. She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest and loves the rain. Truly. Except in the middle of winter and walking the dogs.

She LOVES meeting with book clubs to talk story, research, characters and anything else book related!


THE COMPANION is a recipient of a Regional Arts & Culture Council Grant (RACC) and a winner of a Tucson Festival of Books Literary Award. Her YA novel CISSY FUNK received a WILLA Award for Best Young Adult Fiction.
